Location: Florida

Position Description: has developed a low-cost automatic water sampler that includes electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical components. This internship project would involve the design and assembly of a composite water sampler housing and the associated mechanical components, using off-the-shelf components (relays, pumps, solenoid valves, etc.).
Previous interns have presented their work at national conferences such as the 2002 AWRA Conference in Philadelphia.

Location: Alabama

Extensive network of remote field data collection stations in south Florida. Data from these stations are currently collected by technicians who visit these sites on a weekly or monthly basis. The internship project involves developing low-cost telemetry systems using off-the-shelf device technologies (spread-spectrum, cellular, etc.). Data collected from these sites are also to be integrated with the project management web sites to facilitate access by research partners and clients.

The objective of this project is to evaluate the plant, soil, and water phosphorus (P) implications of applying domestic wastewater residuals (biosolids), animal manure, and water treatment residuals to south-central Florida cattle pastures.  This objective will be met by undertaking a three-year field study in which a biosolids and a chicken manure are applied at different treatment levels, with and without water treatment residuals, on half-acre pastureland plots in the Lake Okeechobee Basin.  The project includes sampling and measurement of waste products, soils, surface and ground waters, and vegetation for phosphorus accumulation and transport indicators.  Results will be assembled and recommendations formulated on appropriate application rates of the tested waste materials.  Planning, results and recommendations will be discussed with the public in two educational workshops.

Seasonal guides lead groups on rafting, canoeing, hiking and interpretive tours throughout the region.

Must complete training, CPR and advanced First Aid

Responsible for greeting customers, answering the telephone, taking reservations, collecting money, selling miscellaneous items, handing out  gear to customers, and miscellaneous paper work.  This  position requires a 40 hour work week consisting of four 9 hour shifts and one 4 hour shift.

River trips on over 25 rivers in the western US  as well as on Canadian and international waters. Pay is $200 per week.

Must have good office skills, oral communication and written communication skills, research skills. Desire to learn more about broadcast journalism.
